Oregon, IL – James W. Mongan, age 72, died Monday January 10, 2011, in the Serenity Home, Oregon, IL. Jim was born August 6, 1938 the son of William E. and Esther (McCulloch) Mongan. He is a Mt. Morris High School Graduate class of 1956. Jim served in the US Marine Corps. during the Korean Conflict. Jim married Marcia V.(Larson) Holley on December 30, 1982 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mt. Morris, IL. Jim was an Operating Engineer, Local 150 for over 52 years, retiring in November 1997. Jim is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mt. Morris and was a member of Sunset Golf Club as an avid golfer. He was a lifetime Mt. Morris resident: “Once a Mounder, always a Mounder.”

Jim is survived by his wife, Marcia Mongan of Mt. Morris,IL; Sons: Bob Mongan, Mt. Morris, IL; Joe (Debbie) Mongan, Rockford, IL; Step-Son Jay (Jennifer) Holley, Mt. Morris, IL; Jon (Tina) Holley, Marengo, IL; Step-Daughter: Pamela (Calvin) Van Auken, Largo, FL. Jim had 2 Grandchildren and 7 Step-Grandchildren; 2 Step-Great Grandchildren. Brothers Rich (Connie) Mongan and Steve (Cindy) Mongan of Mt. Morris, IL; Sisters: Rogene (Amos) Taylor, of Mt. Morris, IL; Elvira Powell of Belvidere, IL; Karen Martinez of Oregon, IL; and Cindy (Bob) Willson of Rockford, IL; and sisters in law Kathy Mongan of Chana, IL and Lea Mongan of Oregon, IL. Many Nieces and Nephews.

He was preceded in death by Parents; Brothers: Bill and Darrell and a sister: Mary Kay Mongan.

Memorial Service will be Saturday January 15, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. in Trinity Lutheran Church, Mt. Morris, IL with Rev. Steven Erickson officiating. Visitation will be Friday January 14, 2011 from 4:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. in Finch Funeral Home, 405 East Hitt, Mt. Morris, IL. Jim will remain Jim to all of us forever. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Ogle County Hospice with other memorials to be established.

Hudsonville, MI – Clara Long, age 105 of Hudsonville, MI went home to be with her Lord on January 8, 2011. Clara was born on July 12, 1905 and raised in Kingsley IA. She graduated from Mt. Morris College in Mt. Morris IL in 1929, with a Bachelors in Home Economics and Physical Education. She taught school in Anniston, AL for one year before marrying Ernest Willoughby Long on August 20th, 1930. They lived on the Long Family Farm in Leaf River, IL. Clara and Willoughby were known for their hospitality and for their hard work on the farm as well as in their local church. They were charter members of the Evangelical Free Church of Mt. Morris, IL. At age 95 she moved to Hudsonville, MI to live with her daughter Carolyn. There she attended Jenison Bible Church.

Clara was often caught reading her Bible and spending time in prayer. She will be remembered for her faithfulness in serving the Lord. She was a strong woman with great perseverance and determination. She really enjoyed her great-grandchildren and attended all of their activities. She loved each moment as it was happening.

Clara was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, E. Willoughby Long, son Eugene W. Long, daughter-in-law Jewel Long, and great grandson Dylan Jon Bengston, sisters Velma, Mae, Anna, Ora, and brother Albert. She is survived by her daughter Carolyn Bengston, of Hudsonville, MI, five grand children – Sharon (David) Hopkins of Katy, TX, Mark (Joyce) Long of Leaf River, IL, Sue (Bob) Manuel of Grand Rapids MI, Becky (Kurt) Kornoelje of Jenison MI, and Dave (Joanne) Bengston of Hudsonville MI, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the Evangelical Free Church in Mt. Morris, IL. Friends may meet with the family prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Evangelical Free Church of Mt. Morris.

Born March 12, 1923, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of James W. and Mildred L. (Lowe) Rouse. Married Hubert “Cy” Dailey on Sept. 24, 1955, in Mount Morris. Graduate of Mount Morris High School, Class of 1941. Employed as a secretary at Watt Publishing Co. and Kable News Co. Attended Trinity Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. Member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Women of the Moose, VFW and American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include husband; son, Fred Himert of Lake Forest, Calif.; daughter, Beverly (Carlos) Anthony of Fresno, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sibling, Arlene McGee of Jacksonville, Fla. Predeceased by parents; brothers, Eugene and James Rouse Jr.; sisters, Rosemary Rouse, Margaret Preston, Barbara Baker and Mildred Jacobson. Memorial service at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 20, in Trinity Lutheran Church, with visitation one hour beforehand. The Rev. Steven Erickson, pastor, will officiate. Mount Morris, IL – Helen G. Motter, 84, of Mount Morris died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, in Pinecrest Manor. Born Feb. 3, 1926, in Aurora, the daughter of John G. Benditz and Elizabeth (Seelman) Benditz. Married William V. Motter on April 23, 1954, in Aurora. Graduate of East High School, Aurora, Class of 1945. Member of Middle Creek Presbyterian Church, Winnebago, where she was very active for many years and was one of the early females to serve as member of the Session. She also was active for many years in the Leaf River Grange, Christian Woman’s Club in Leaf River and Ogle County Republican Women. She worked side-by-side for 40 years with her husband in their insurance agency and income tax service. Survivors include husband, William; children, Elizabeth (Andy Kroese) Motter of Tahoe City, Calif., William K. Motter of Brownsville, Ore., and Kathryn (Rich) Brotherton of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren; and brothers, John and William. Predeceased by parents; stepmother, Anna “Grandma” Benditz; brothers, Charles and Donald; and sister, Marie Steineinger. Service at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at Finch Funeral Home, Mount Morris, with the Rev. Richard Bright officiating. Burial in Lightsville Cemetery. Carol was born August 13, 1921, the daughter of Howard & Millie (Arns) Briden, in Janesville, Iowa. She married Charles L. McBride in 1942, Charles preceded her in death February 5, 2001. They farmed near Fredericksburg, Iowa. Carol Moved to Mt. Morris, IL, in October of 2002.

Carol is survived by Daughter: Donna (Larry) Elliott, of Mt. Morris, IL; Son: Charles D. (Ruby) McBride, Terrell, TX. Three Grandchildren; eight Great-Grandchildren, and one Great-Great-Granddaughter.

A celebration of Life service will be held Sunday November 28, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. in The Mt. Morris Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Virginia Haney officiating. Burial of cremated remains will at a later date in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg, Iowa.

She graduated from Mt. Morris High School Class of 1949. Betty married Floyd Eugene “Corby” Corbett, April 17, 1949 in Mt. Morris, IL. She worked as a secretary for the Vice President General Manager of Kable Printing Company, Mt. Morris, IL. Betty retired February 1, 1992. Betty was a member of the Mt. Morris Ladies of the Moose, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and Sunset Golf Club. Betty loved bowling, bridge club, golf, cooking, watching the Cubs and the Bulls play, and she loved her family get togethers.

Morris Disciples United Methodist Church.

Oregon, IL – Bernadine Canfield, age 90 1/2, formerly of Oregon, IL in the Lighthouse Community, and life long member of Lighthouse Methodist Church, passed away October 4, 2010. She was a resident of Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home, Mt. Morris, IL., for the past 3 years.

Bernadine was born, April 17, 1920, in Coleta, IL., a daughter of the late Ralph and Stella Pyse.

As a life long resident of the Lighthouse community, she was active in many church functions while raising her family. Bernadine loved working in her garden which gave her many happy moments.

Bernadine worked for Kline’s Department Store of Dixon for 12+ years before she retired.

Bernadine was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Canfield, a marriage that lasted 62 years before his passing in May of 2001. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her father and mother, sisters; Ravine Pyse; Louella Wagenecht; Genevieve Fritz and brother Raymond Pyse.

Surviving are daughters Beverly Johnson and husband Lyle Johnson of Bloomsburg, PA; Judy Banks and husband Charles Banks of St. Petersburg, Florida; one son, Wayne W. of Arkansas; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Phyllis Whitney of Dixon, IL and sister-in-law Dorothy (Raymond) of Dixon, IL.

Arrangements are by Finch Funeral Home of Mt. Morris for cremation and burial. A memorial service is planned for October 23, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. in Lighthouse Methodist Church. Burial at Lighthouse Cemetery.
