History

Finch Funeral & Crematory started in North Liberty, Indiana in 1910 under the ownership of Louis G. Finch. Mr. Finch relocated the business to Mt. Morris, Illinois in 1920 and established a retail furniture business as well. After serving our country in WW II, Louis’ sons, Charles W. and Louis Jr. returned home and joined the family business. Grandson, Louis G. Finch III joined the business after serving in the Army during the Vietnam War. In 1993, the 4th generation, Louis G. Finch IV entered the family firm. He also serves the people of Ogle County as the elected Ogle County Coroner.

Both Louis III and Louis IV are active members of their community. Louis III is a lifelong resident of Mt. Morris. He graduated from Mt. Morris High School in 1962. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics, History and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1967. He then graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 1971. He is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Tebala Shrine Temple, The Valley of Freeport Consistory Scottish Rites Bodies, the Mt. Morris American Legion Post 143 and the Mt. Morris Moose Lodge #1551. He is a licensed private pilot. Other hobbies include scuba diving, bicycling, physical fitness, traveling, history and wood refinishing.

Louis IV graduated from Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana in 1988. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Mississippi in 1992. He then received his degree in mortuary science from Southern Illinois University in 1993. Lou is married to Jaime Welte-Finch, also a licensed funeral director and embalmer. They live in Mt. Morris with their four children, Brayton, Gylian, Brigham and Ryker. As well as being the Ogle County Coroner and past president of the Leaf River Lion’s Club. He formerly served on the Ogle County Board and the Northern Illinois Funeral Directors Association. He is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Tebala Shrine Honda Patrol and a life member of Mt. Morris Moose Lodge #1551. His hobbies include golfing, hunting and coaching his kids’ sports teams.
